Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of Yamaha XJ 600:
- The fuel efficiency (shown as fuel consumption above) shows how efficient is a certain motorcycle in converting the chemical energy of the fuel into kinetic energy. It is usually measured by how many liters are needed to travel 100 kilometers (L/100km) or by what distance in miles can be traveled with one gallon of fuel (mpg). It means that based on its technical specifications Yamaha XJ 600 will burn a gallon of fuel on every 43.6 miles of your trip or 5.40 liters on every 100km. If we know that Yamaha XJ 600 has a fuel tank capacity of 17.0 liters and its fuel economy is 43.6mpg (based on the technical specifications data above) then we can calculate the run it can achieve with a topped up tank and it is 195 miles.
- 599 cc engine size (displacement) - this is the total volume enclosed in the movement of all pistons in the engine cylinders from their bottom to their top position in a stroke. Bigger displacement volume usually means more powerful motorcycle engine and less miles per gallon. As per the specification table here the displacement volume of the Yamaha XJ 600 engine is 599 cc. It is specified in cubic centimeters (cc) or liters.
- 155 mm ground clearance - this can be defined as the distance between the lowest point of the XJ 600's chassis and the level ground surface below it. Usually off-road bikes have higher ground clearance while sport bikes have lower ground clearance.Bore and stroke measures of Yamaha XJ 600
- Bore and stroke 58.5x55.7 - the bore is a measurement of the inside diameter of the cylinder. The stroke represents the distance traveled by the piston from the top of the cylinder to the bottom (or vice versa) in a single stroke. The technical specification of Yamaha XJ 600 shows that its bore and stroke measures are 58.5 mm and 55.7 mm. If bore is bigger than stroke as it is with this Yamaha engine then we say that XJ 600 has a short stroke engine.
- 10:1 compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. In other words it represents how tightly the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is pressed before the ignition. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
- Chain final drive: There are currently three ways to drive power from a motorcycle engine to its rear wheel - chain, belt and shaft drive. Since they all have their specific advantages it is hard to tell the best among them. Manufacturers have used all of them over the year and each one has turned out to be a workable technology. The final drive of Yamaha XJ 600 is chain.
final drive implemented with chainIt is a fact that the majority of motorcycles around the world are driven by chains. Chains are simple and efficient way to transmit horsepower from the engine to the rear wheel. However all chains require keeping an eye on them and proper lubrication when they get dry and cleaning when they get dirty.
- Air cooling system: both air and liquid cooling systems serve the same purpose to keep the engine in an optimal temperature range and they both have their advantages. The air cooled motorcycles came first and have more history in world's best know manufacturers as Harley Davidson and BMW. They have less moving parts and therefore less things to break.Turn signals replacement of Yamaha XJ 600
- You can easily find out how to replace the Yamaha XJ 600 turn signals and quickly do it yourself. As the motorcycle turn signals cables are generally color coded it would not be a hassle disconnecting and reconnecting the wires. In the case of box connection all you have to do is clip off both ends (the male and female). There should not be any confusion connecting the new Yamaha XJ 600 turn signals after they are placed since the wires have been properly marked.Picture of Yamaha XJ 600 cover
Since the dimensions of the Yamaha XJ 600 are given in the specs that would help you get the right size motorcycle cover. If any additional aftermarket accessories have been installed on the bike they may have an effect on the dimensions. Accessories like saddles bags, backrest or windshield will call the need for a larger motorcycle cover.
