Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of Yamaha Tmax 500:
- The fuel economy (fuel consumption) shows either how much fuel the motorcycle is consuming per 100 kilometers or haw many miles you can ride it with a single gallon of fuel. In the specific case the fuel economy of Yamaha Tmax 500 allows you to ride 48 miles with one gallon of fuel or in other words it will burn 4.90 liters of fuel on a 100 kilometers (62 miles) run. Taken into consideration that it has a 15.0 liters (or 4 gallons)s fuel tank capacity it can be calculated that Yamaha Tmax 500 can run 306 kilometers or 190 miles with a full fuel tank.
- 499 cc engine displacement (engine size) - this is the total swept volume of all the pistons in the cylinders when they are performing a complete stroke. In the common case bigger displacement of the engine means more horse power and more fuel consumption. The engine displacement is measured in cubic centimeters (cc) or liters (l) and for Yamaha Tmax 500 it is 499 cc as per the specifications above.
- 124 mm ground clearance is the shortest distance measured from the ground to the chassis of Tmax 500. Usually off-road bikes have higher ground clearance while sport bikes have lower ground clearance.Bore and stroke of Yamaha Tmax 500 engine
- 66x73 bore and stroke - this is a term concerning the engine parameters describing the ratio between cylinder bore diameter and piston stroke. If bore and stroke have equal measures then the engine is called square. The bore diameter of Yamaha Tmax 500 is 66 mm and the stroke length is 73 mm as per its technical specification. If the bore is shorter than the stroke as it is with this Yamaha engine then we say that Tmax 500 has a long-stroke engine.
- Compression ratio 10.1:1. Imagine an engine's piston is at the bottom of its stroke (step one) and moves up compressing the gas in the cylinder till it reaches its top position of the stroke (step 2). The compression ratio is the ration of the volume in step one over the volume in step two. In other words it represents how tightly the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is pressed before the ignition. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
- Belt final drive: Depending on the purpose of the motorcycle and its characteristics usually one among the three possible final drive options is preferred. On sport bikes the chain drive is preferred while most cruisers and touring bikes tend to be designed with belt or shaft drive. Manufacturers have used all of them over the year and each one has turned out to be a workable technology. The final drive of Yamaha Tmax 500 is belt.
motorcycle with belt driveBelts are a feasible final drive option which last longer than a chain, require less maintenance and does not need constant lubricating, therefore no chain lube messing around. When it comes to driving power from the engine to the rear wheel, belts tend to be more economical than shaft drives.
- Liquid cooling: cooling the engine and keeping the heat off the biker is one of the concerns in today's motorcycle designs. While air cooled bikes are better cooled while in motion, the liquid cooled motorcycles have pumps, radiators and fans to deal with the heat even at idle speed.Yamaha Tmax 500 turn signals - replacement
- Replacing Yamaha Tmax 500 turn signals is an easy job and commonly considered a do it yourself project. Disconnecting the wires of the motorcycle turn signals is not a hassle as usually they are color coded. It could be as simple as disconnecting both the male and female ends if box connection is used. Complete the installation of the new Yamaha Tmax 500 turn signals by properly connecting the wires after they are securely mounted.Bike cover for Yamaha Tmax 500
The motorcycle cover protects the bike from the elements and the dimensions of the Yamaha Tmax 500 are important when choosing one. If any additional aftermarket accessories have been installed on the bike they may have an effect on the dimensions. Accessories like saddles bags, backrest or windshield will call the need for a larger motorcycle cover.
