Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of Ducati Streetfighter 848:
- The fuel efficiency (shown as fuel consumption above) shows how efficient is a certain motorcycle in converting the chemical energy of the fuel into kinetic energy. It is usually measured by how many liters are needed to travel 100 kilometers (L/100km) or by what distance in miles can be traveled with one gallon of fuel (mpg). In the specific case the fuel economy of Ducati Streetfighter 848 allows you to ride 41.3 miles with one gallon of fuel or in other words it will burn 5.70 liters of fuel on a 100 kilometers (62 miles) run. As we already know its fuel efficiency and fuel tank capacity we can easily calculate that if the tank is full we can ride it 179 miles till we run out of gas. However we better not try it because the gas stations are never where we desperately need them to be.
- 849 cc engine size (displacement) - this is the total volume enclosed in the movement of all pistons in the engine cylinders from their bottom to their top position in a stroke. Engines with bigger displacement volume tend to produce more power and usually have bigger fuel consumption. It is usually measured in cc (cubic centimeters) or l (liters) and according to the specifications above Ducati Streetfighter 848 has an engine displacement of 849 cubic centimeters.
- 165 mm ground clearance - means that the shortest distance between the ground (considering it is flat) and the chassis of Streetfighter 848 is 165 mm. The lower the ground clearance the better the handling but on the contrary higher clearance makes the bike more practical on uneven roads and off-road.Bore and stroke of Ducati Streetfighter 848 engine
- 94x61.2 bore and stroke - this is a term concerning the engine parameters describing the ratio between cylinder bore diameter and piston stroke. If bore and stroke have equal measures then the engine is called square. Based on the technical specifications above Ducati Streetfighter 848 has a bore with diameter of 94 mm and the length of the stroke is 61.2 mm. For this particular Ducati engine bore is bigger than stroke meaning that Streetfighter 848 has a short stroke engine.
- Compression ratio 13.2:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 13.2:1. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
- Chain final drive: Depending on the purpose of the motorcycle and its characteristics usually one among the three possible final drive options is preferred. On sport bikes the chain drive is preferred while most cruisers and touring bikes tend to be designed with belt or shaft drive. Bikes have been designed with all three variations of the final drive for many years and each of them has performed well for the purpose it's been used. The final drive of Ducati Streetfighter 848 is chain.
chain driven motorcycleIt is a fact that the majority of motorcycles around the world are driven by chains. Chains are simple and efficient way to transmit horsepower from the engine to the rear wheel. Many bikers may complain of the need of constant care though. Since the chain is exposed to dust, sun and rain it needs to be periodically cleaned and properly lubricated.
- Liquid cooling system: heat management and biker's comfort are some of the major concerns for the motorcycle manufacturers. Liquid cooling is better for the engine in high traffic and speeding but its biggest advantage is that liquid cooled engines tend to produce more horsepower.Turn signals of Ducati Streetfighter 848
- Replacing the turn signals of Ducati Streetfighter 848 is not a difficult undertaking and usually turns out to be much simpler than expected. Reconnecting the motorcycle turn signals cables would not be a problem as these wires are generally color coded. After locating the bolts that hold them in position you will have to remove them. Complete the installation of the new Ducati Streetfighter 848 turn signals by properly connecting the wires after they are securely mounted.Picture of Ducati Streetfighter 848 cover
The motorcycle cover protects the bike from the elements and the dimensions of the Ducati Streetfighter 848 are important when choosing one. Please keep in mind that any additional aftermarket accessories can increase the dimensions of the bike. The cover length, width and height might need to be bigger if saddle bags, fairings or backrest have been installed on the motorcycle.
