Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of Ducati Monster 1200:
- The fuel consumption (fuel economy) of a motorcycle shows either the mileage that can be achieved with a certain amount of fuel (mpg) or the amount of fuel needed to cover certain mileage (L/100km). In the specific case the fuel economy of Ducati Monster 1200 allows you to ride 38.6 miles with one gallon of fuel or in other words it will burn 6.10 liters of fuel on a 100 kilometers (62 miles) run. If we know that Ducati Monster 1200 has a fuel tank capacity of 17.5 liters and its fuel economy is 38.6mpg (based on the technical specifications data above) then we can calculate the run it can achieve with a topped up tank and it is 178 miles.
- 1198 cc engine displacement - that is the volume enclosed by the movement of the pistons from their lower to their upper position in the cylinders. The more cubic centimeters the displacement volume the more power the engine generates. It is usually measured in cc (cubic centimeters) or l (liters) and according to the specifications above Ducati Monster 1200 has an engine displacement of 1198 cubic centimeters.
- 155 mm or 6.1 inches ground clearance - this is the distance between the ground surface and the lowest part of Monster 1200 not counting the tyres of course as they are meant to be in contact with the ground. Lower ground clearance means better handling while higher clearance equals more practicality.Ducati Monster 1200 bore and stroke diagram
- 106x67.9 bore and stroke - bore is the diameter of the piston which equals the inside diameter of the engine cylinder. On the other hand stroke is the maximum length that the piston travels up and down inside the cylinder every stroke. Based on the technical specifications above Ducati Monster 1200 has a bore with diameter of 106 mm and the length of the stroke is 67.9 mm. If bore is bigger than stroke as it is with this Ducati engine then we say that Monster 1200 has a short stroke engine.
- 12.5:1 compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
- Chain final drive: It's hard to tell whether the chain or the shaft or the belt drive is the best way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle as they all do what they are meant to do and have their own advantages. Bikes have been designed with all three variations of the final drive for many years and each of them has performed well for the purpose it's been used. The final drive of Ducati Monster 1200 is chain.
motorcycle with chain final driveChain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. However they are not as smooth as belts and shafts and also require frequent care like cleaning and keeping the chain properly lubricated.
- Liquid cooling system: motorcycle engines can be air cooled or liquid cooled and they both have their advantages. Liquid cooling is better for the engine in high traffic and speeding but its biggest advantage is that liquid cooled engines tend to produce more horsepower.Turn signals replacement of Ducati Monster 1200
- If you decided to fix the turn signals of your Ducati Monster 1200 yourself there is nothing to worry about as that is indeed an easy DIY task. When disconnecting the wires of your motorcycle turn signals it is advisable to stick distinct tapes on them if they are not color coded. The next step is to locate the bolts that hold them in position. There should not be any confusion connecting the new Ducati Monster 1200 turn signals after they are placed since the wires have been properly marked.Ducati Monster 1200 protective cover
Motorcycle covers come in different sizes and their sizing chart will help you choose the correct one using the given dimensions of the Ducati Monster 1200. The overall measures of the bike could be increased by some aftermarket accessories. A larger cover will be needed if the motorcycle has an additional backrest, sissy bar or panniers fitted.
