Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of Ducati Monster 1100:
- The fuel consumption (fuel economy) of a motorcycle shows either the mileage that can be achieved with a certain amount of fuel (mpg) or the amount of fuel needed to cover certain mileage (L/100km). In the average case Ducati Monster 1100 will burn 5.30 liters on every 100km of your trip. That is based on the technical specifications of the motorcycle and may vary depending on several factors as style of riding, temperature, road condition etc. As per the MPG number it will run for 44.4 miles while burning one gallon of fuel. If we know that Ducati Monster 1100 has a fuel tank capacity of 15.0 liters and its fuel economy is 44.4mpg (based on the technical specifications data above) then we can calculate the run it can achieve with a topped up tank and it is 175 miles.
- 1078 cc engine displacement - that is the volume enclosed by the movement of the pistons from their lower to their upper position in the cylinders. Engines with bigger displacement volume tend to produce more power and usually have bigger fuel consumption. The engine displacement is measured in cubic centimeters (cc) or liters (l) and for Ducati Monster 1100 it is 1078 cc as per the specifications above.
- 160 mm ground clearance - means that the shortest distance between the ground (considering it is flat) and the chassis of Monster 1100 is 160 mm. The lower the ground clearance the better the handling but on the contrary higher clearance makes the bike more practical on uneven roads and off-road.Ducati Monster 1100 bore and stroke explaination
- 98x71.5 bore and stroke - bore is the diameter of the piston which equals the inside diameter of the engine cylinder. On the other hand stroke is the maximum length that the piston travels up and down inside the cylinder every stroke. According to the technical specifications of Ducati Monster 1100 its bore is 98 mm and the stroke is 71.5 mm. For this particular Ducati engine bore is bigger than stroke meaning that Monster 1100 has a short stroke engine.
- Compression ratio 10.7:1 - this parameter refers to how the cylinder's space changes from when the piston is down at its lowest point to when the piston is up at its highest point in the stroke. In other words it represents how tightly the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is pressed before the ignition. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
- Chain final drive: There are currently three ways to drive power from a motorcycle engine to its rear wheel - chain, belt and shaft drive. Since they all have their specific advantages it is hard to tell the best among them. Each of them has proved to be a successful technology for the years it has been used by bike manufacturers. The final drive of Ducati Monster 1100 is chain.
final drive implemented with chainOne of the most economical way to drive horsepower from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle is achieved with the chain drive and therefore it is still the most used among the three options by bike manufacturers. Many bikers may complain of the need of constant care though. Since the chain is exposed to dust, sun and rain it needs to be periodically cleaned and properly lubricated.
- Air cooling: the constant cooling of the motorcycle engine is mandatory for its efficiency and durability. Air cooled motorcycles run quieter and provide more simplicity as they have less parts and therefore are cheaper.Turn signals replacement of Ducati Monster 1100
- Replacing Ducati Monster 1100 turn signals is an easy job and commonly considered a do it yourself project. Generally the motorcycle turn signals wires are color coded and disconnecting them is not a problem. It could be as simple as disconnecting both the male and female ends if box connection is used. After making sure that the new Ducati Monster 1100 turn signals sit in the housing properly you may proceed with connecting the wires.Ducati Monster 1100 protective cover
The motorcycle cover protects the bike from the elements and the dimensions of the Ducati Monster 1100 are important when choosing one. Please keep in mind that any additional aftermarket accessories can increase the dimensions of the bike. In case the motorcycle has saddle bags or windshield then it will most likely need a larger protective cover.
