Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of BMW K1300S:
- The fuel efficiency (shown as fuel consumption above) shows how efficient is a certain motorcycle in converting the chemical energy of the fuel into kinetic energy. It is usually measured by how many liters are needed to travel 100 kilometers (L/100km) or by what distance in miles can be traveled with one gallon of fuel (mpg). The fuel efficiency of BMW K1300S based on its technical specifications will let it run for 44.4 miles burning one gallon of fuel. It also means that it will burn 5.30 liters on a 100km trip. Taken into consideration that it has a 19.0 liters (or 5 gallons)s fuel tank capacity it can be calculated that BMW K1300S can run 358 kilometers or 222 miles with a full fuel tank.
- Engine size (displacement ) of 1293 cc - this is the partial volume of the combustion chamber swept by all the pistons in a single movement from bottom dead center to top dead center. In the common case the bigger the displacement volume the more powerful the engine and lesser fuel economy. The displacement is commonly specified in cc (cubic centimeters) or liters and based on the BMW K1300S specifications its engine displacement is 1293 cubic centimeters.
- 225 mm ground clearance - this can be defined as the distance between the lowest point of the K1300S's chassis and the level ground surface below it. Motorcycles with lower ground clearance would have better handling as their center of gravity will be lower than average.BMW K1300S bore and stroke diagram
- Bore and stroke 80x64.3 - the bore is a measurement of the inside diameter of the cylinder. The stroke represents the distance traveled by the piston from the top of the cylinder to the bottom (or vice versa) in a single stroke. The diameter of the cylinder of BMW K1300S is 80 mm and the piston stroke is 64.3 mm based on the technical specifications above. Because the length of the stroke for this BMW engine is smaller than the diameter of the cylinder (bore) we say that K1300S has a short stroke engine.
- Compression ratio 13:1 of a motorcycle engine is the ratio of the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the bottom of the stoke and its volume when the piston is at the top of the stroke. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
- Shaft final drive: It's hard to tell whether the chain or the shaft or the belt drive is the best way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle as they all do what they are meant to do and have their own advantages. All of them are workable technologies and have proved that over the years. The final drive of BMW K1300S is shaft.
shaft final drive of motorcycleMainly used with power cruisers and touring bikes, the shaft drives provide smooth way to deliver power to the rear wheel. Shaft drives are quiet, clean and don't really need much care, except changing their oil after gaining certain amount of miles on the odometer. Shaft drives have their own minor disadvantages though - higher cost reflecting on the final price of the motorcycle and compared to chain and belt drives they are the less economical one because of the minor loss of power caused by the moving gears in a shaft drive.
- Liquid cooling: cooling the engine and keeping the heat off the biker is one of the concerns in today's motorcycle designs. While air cooled bikes are better cooled while in motion, the liquid cooled motorcycles have pumps, radiators and fans to deal with the heat even at idle speed.BMW K1300S - installation of turn signals
- If you decided to fix the turn signals of your BMW K1300S yourself there is nothing to worry about as that is indeed an easy DIY task. Generally the motorcycle turn signals wires are color coded and disconnecting them is not a problem. It could be as simple as disconnecting both the male and female ends if box connection is used. After the new BMW K1300S turn signals are placed on make sure they are connected to the right slots as previously marked.BMW K1300S with protective bike cover
The dimensions of the BMW K1300S are important when choosing a motorcycle cover. Please keep in mind that any additional aftermarket accessories can increase the dimensions of the bike. Accessories like saddles bags, backrest or windshield will call the need for a larger motorcycle cover.
