The Italian motorcycle manufacturing company Aprilia was founded as a scooter producer right after the end of the Second World War. The first intentions of the founder Cavalier Alberto Beggio were to manufacture bicycles but when his son joined the company several years later all the plans changed and they soon started producing their first mopeds with model names Colibri, Daniela and Packi. All of them had a moderate success.
Later in 1970 Aprilia produced their first cross bike named Scarabeo in variety of engine sizes from 50cc to 125cc. Four years later Aprilia announced their first street motorcycle model RC125. In 1986 Aprilia announced the Tuareg motorcycle which was specially designed for African rallies and had a really large fuel tank. In 1990s the company produced several successful scooters – Amico LK, Scarabeo (a scooter with four-stroke and 4-valve engine), Leonardo and Gulliver.
Aprilia have won many MotoGP world championships in the 125cc and 250cc class with the two-stroke Aprilia RS 125 R and Aprilia RSW 250 and also couple Superbike World Championships with Aprilia RSV4 1000 and Aprilia RSV4 Factory in 2010 and 2012.
