A good way to figure out whether Yamaha Smax or Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is better matching your personal style and requirements is to compare their specifications and features in details. Your choice of motorcycle should be all about your individual preferences and comfort level. It is not unusual to find it hard to find the most suitable motorcycle and comparing the technical specifications and pictures will help to shorten the list of favourite ones to just a few models. The best way to explore them is to actually sit on these bikes and check how much comfort you get with each of them.

The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to Yamaha Smax doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The second bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 11.5:1 than the other one. This is the ration of the volumes in the cylinder in two stages of the stroke when the piston is at the lowest and then at the highest point in the cylinder. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Yamaha Smax which can travel 81.1 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. When measured in mpg the fuel economy shows how many miles can be traveled with a gallon of fuel. Alternatively when measure in l\100km it shows the fuel consumption in litters per 100 kilometer trip.
bike tires The producer of each bike specifies the sizes of its front and rear tyre. Your type of riding is also to be taken into account here. To get the proper tire size requires that you know the meaning of the numbers and letters printed on the side of each tire. Firstly the code shows the width of the tire measured in millimeters. Both motorcycles have the same with of their front tires - 120 mm. The second number show the aspect ratio. And the third number indicats the diameter of the rim in inches. A good way to save some time and money is to purchase your motorcycle tires online at competitive price.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has bigger ground clearance than Yamaha Smax (135mm vs 130mm). The distance between the chassis and the base of the tyre is called ride height or also ground clearance of a motorcycle and is usually given in millimeters in the technical specifications. That, in other words, is the smallest distance between any mechanical body part of the motorcycle and the surface of the road.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 appears to be faster than Yamaha Smax with top speed of 246km/h against 110km/h for the other bike. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled motorcycle engineThe same method of engine cooling is used on both motorcycles - liquid cooling. The tiny variations of the operating temperatures are one of the significant advantages of the liquid cooled motorcycles. Therefore liquid cooled motors can run with carburetion set to burn all the fuel in the mixture. The liquid (coolant) is forced by the water pump to circulate from the radiator to the engine and back. If the motorcycle slows down to a point where the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to lower the temperature of the coolant to the needed level, a thermostat will typically switch an electric fan on to increase the air flow through the radiator. Finally this type of cooling makes it is easier to meet emissions and noise regulations and increase power output.
As per their technical specifications both motorcycles have different types of final drive implementation.
motorcycle with chain final drive The final drive of the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is chain. Chain final drives are known for their simplicity and efficiency in driving power from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle and are one of the most popular final drive options by far. The down points of the chain drive are the frequent maintenance required as it needs to be regularly cleaned and oiled. Besides it is not as smooth as a shaft or belt drive. The Yamaha Smax is driven by a belt.
Compression ratio - this parameter refers to how the cylinder's space changes from when the piston is down at its lowest point to when the piston is up at its highest point in the stroke. Based on the information from the technical data of the motorcycles the values are accordingly 11:1 for Yamaha Smax and 11.5:1 for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. Motorcycles with higher compression ratio may be recommended to use premium fuel only in order to avoid engine knocking. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
Engine oil is among the most important aspects of an engines health. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. It is commonly accepted engine oil to be changed on every 3700 miles (6000 kilometers). If you you synthetic oil then bigger mileage can be allowed between oil changes. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. According to the technical specs the engine oil capacity is 1.8 litres for Yamaha Smax and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. When changing the oil it is advisable to put less than the specified oil capacity and to check the level. Pouring exactly the proper amount of oil needed is achieved by observing the level sight window or the dipstick marks.
