motorcycle reviews: Yamaha Honda Suzuki Kawasaki BMW Harley Davidson Aprilia Ducati Triumph KTM Hyosung |
To compare the technical specifications and features of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 and Ducati 899 Panigale is a good way to find out which one of these motorcycles will better match your style and requirements. When trying to make your mind on the next motorcycle, your personal levels of comfort should be the leading criteria. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.
The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to Ducati 899 Panigale doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The second bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.5:1 than the other one. It represents the relation between the biggest and the smallest volume in the combustion chamber while the piston is performing its stroke movement. The bigger compression ratio means better fuel economy comparing engines with the same displacement because the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber burns more effectively. The better fuel economy of 6.20 l/100km belongs to Ducati 899 Panigale compared to the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1's fuel consumption of 6.25 l/100km. There are two ways of showing the fuel economy of a motorcycle - describing how many miles it can travel with a single gallon of fuel (mpg) or how many litters of fuel it is burning on a 100 kilometer trip (l\100km). ![]() Both motorcycles have the same ground clearance of 135mm. Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. That, in other words, is the smallest distance between any mechanical body part of the motorcycle and the surface of the road. Ducati 899 Panigale appears to be faster than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 with top speed of 287km/h against 246km/h for the other bike. Sometimes of course motorcycle speed statistics may be contradictory from various sources. ![]() Both motorcycles are liquid cooled. Motorcycles with liquid cooling operate at narrower temperature ranges. Keeping the operating temperature at a very narrow range allows many engine components to be optimised for these temperatures. The circulation of the coolant from the radiator to the engine is helped by the water pump. If the motorcycle slows down to a point where the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to lower the temperature of the coolant to the needed level, a thermostat will typically switch an electric fan on to increase the air flow through the radiator. Liquid-cooled engines are usually more forgiving because the hot engine has some surrounding coolant to heat up before causing any damage from overheating. ![]() Compression ratio 11.5:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 11.5:1. The value of the compression ratio of Ducati 899 Panigale is 12.5:1 based on the information in its technical data and for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 the ratio is 11.5:1. To avoid engine knocking when compression ratio is high those motorcycles might be recommended to use premium fuel only. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition. Engine oil is among the most important aspects of an engines health. Mineral and part-synthetic engine oils are cheaper when it comes to price in comparison with the most technically advanced synthetic motor oils. The engine oil is to be changed on every 3700 miles (or 6000 kilometers) as a general rule. More kilometers between two oil changes is accepted when synthetic oil is used. Depending on the oil filter it needs to be replaced on each or every two oil changes. The oil capacity of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres and the engine oil of Ducati 899 Panigale is 3.4 litres as per their technical specs. The oil capacity information is only to get an idea of how much oil roughly will be needed on oilchange. The best way to pour the exact quantity of oil is to observe the dipstick or the level sight window. |
