The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to Triumph Street Triple 675 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.65:1 than the other one. It represents the relation between the biggest and the smallest volume in the combustion chamber while the piston is performing its stroke movement. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Triumph Street Triple 675 which can travel 49 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another.
motorcycle tires Motorcycle tyres come in variety of sizes and these sizes are strongly specified for each model. Your individual riding style is another factor that determines which type is appropriate in your case. The code designators located on the side of each tires is something that you should be aware of if you want to find proper tires for your bike. The first of these numbers shows how many millimeters the tire is wide. Both motorcycles have the same with of their front tires - 120 mm. The second number show the aspect ratio. The third of the code numbers reffers to the size of the rim and it is measured in inches. A good way to save some time and money is to purchase your motorcycle tires online at competitive price.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has a better ground clearance of 135mm ( for Triumph Street Triple 675 it is 120mm). Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. That, in other words, is the smallest distance between any mechanical body part of the motorcycle and the surface of the road.
The top speed of 246km/h makes Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 the faster of the two motorcycles. The other one (Triumph Street Triple 675) can achieve a maximum speed of 215km/h according to its technical specifications. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled motorcycle engine
Both motorcycles are liquid cooled. Liquid-cooled engines have a narrower range of operating temperatures compared to the air-cooled ones. Therefore the liquid-cooled engine runs more efficiently and consistently. The main principle is circulation of the liquid between the radiator and the engine. A fan is turned on if needed by a thermostat to draw more air over the radiator in case the motorcycle slows down. However the water pump, the thermostat, the radiator and all the linking gear makes it a bit more complex.
motorcycle driven by chain These two motorcycles (Triumph Street Triple 675 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1) have the same type of final drive which is chain. Most motorcycles are produced with chain drive because of its economical way to transfer power to the rear wheel and convey the biggest percentage of engine power in that process. However all chains require keeping an eye on them and proper lubrication when they get dry and cleaning when they get dirty.
Compression ratio of a motorcycle engine is the ratio of the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the bottom of the stoke and its volume when the piston is at the top of the stroke. The compressio ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 and it is 12.65:1 for Triumph Street Triple 675 according to the motorcycles technical data above. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. It plays a big role in engine efficiency because bigger compression ratio means better thermal efficiency and more mileage with the same amount of gas.
The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Synthetic engine oils are considered the most technically advanced one and are more expensive than the mineral oils which come at lower price. The engine oil is to be changed on every 3700 miles (or 6000 kilometers) as a general rule. The quality of the synthetic oil allows up to 5000 miles (8000 km) between oil changes. Some oil filters can be replaced on every second oil change while others are to be replaced on each oil change. According to the technical specs the engine oil capacity is 3.6 litres for Triumph Street Triple 675 and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. This oil capacity values are with informative purpose only. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick).
