motorcycle reviews: Yamaha Honda Suzuki Kawasaki BMW Harley Davidson Aprilia Ducati Triumph KTM Hyosung |
Comparing the technical specifications of Triumph Sprint ST 1050 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is a proper way to figure out which one of these motorcycles matches better your individual preferences and expectations. When trying to make your mind on the next motorcycle, your personal levels of comfort should be the leading criteria. A good way to narrow the circle of favourite bikes is to compare their technical specifications and select just a few that are really matching your style and needs. The best way to explore them is to actually sit on these bikes and check how much comfort you get with each of them.
Although Triumph Sprint ST 1050 has a bigger engine displacement than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 it doesn't necessarily mean it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12:1 than the other one. This parameter shows how the volume in the engine cylinder when the piston is at the bottom end relates to the volume when the piston is at the top end. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement). The bike with a better fuel economy is the Triumph Sprint ST 1050 which can travel 41.3 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. There are two ways of showing the fuel economy of a motorcycle - describing how many miles it can travel with a single gallon of fuel (mpg) or how many litters of fuel it is burning on a 100 kilometer trip (l\100km). ![]() Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has a better ground clearance of 135mm ( for Triumph Sprint ST 1050 it is 120mm). The ride height is the other name of the parameter ground clearance which refers to the measure from the tyre base to the underside of the cassis of a motorcycle. That, in other words, is the smallest distance between any mechanical body part of the motorcycle and the surface of the road. Triumph Sprint ST 1050 is the bike with higher tested top speed (258km/h). On the other side Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 can achieve speed of 246km/h on the highway. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate. ![]() Both motorcycles are liquid cooled. Compared to the air cooled motorcycles the liquid cooled ones have a very narrow range of working temperatures. Therefore the liquid-cooled engine runs more efficiently and consistently. The water pump drives the coolant from the engine into the radiator and back. If the motorcycle slows down to a point where the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to lower the temperature of the coolant to the needed level, a thermostat will typically switch an electric fan on to increase the air flow through the radiator. Water jackets in a liquid cooled engine act as sound insulators and make it quieter. ![]() Compression ratio of a motorcycle engine is the ratio of the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the bottom of the stoke and its volume when the piston is at the top of the stroke. The compressio ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 and it is 12:1 for Triumph Sprint ST 1050 according to the motorcycles technical data above. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. Engines with higher compression ratio are more energy efficient because they are able to extract more mechanical energy from a certain amount of fuel. One of the most important aspects of the basic level of maintenance of a motorcycle is the engine oil. Engine oils are different types as synthetic, mineral, part-synthetic and they all come at their price and qualities. As a general rule it should be changed on every 6000 kilometers or 3700 miles. If you you synthetic oil then bigger mileage can be allowed between oil changes. A good practice is to replace the oil filter with each or every second oil change. The oil capacity of Triumph Sprint ST 1050 is 3.5 litres and the engine oil of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres as per their technical specs. The oil capacity here is just to give you a rough idea of how much oil you need on an oil change. The exact amount of oil you pour in is to be judged by the current level shown on the oil level sight window or dipstick. |
