motorcycle reviews: Yamaha Honda Suzuki Kawasaki BMW Harley Davidson Aprilia Ducati Triumph KTM Hyosung |
Looking at the detailed specifications of both motorcycles Suzuki GSX-R750 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is a proper approach to determine which of the two is more likely to match your style of riding and to satisfy your preferences. The decision on your next motorcycle purchase should be all based on your personal preferences for speed, handling and comfort. If you compare the motorcycles you are interested in by analysing their technical specifications, features and pictures, the list of favourite ones could be shortened to just a few models. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has bigger engine size than Suzuki GSX-R750 but this is not a direct indicator for more power or better performance. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.5:1 than the other one. This represents the biggest volume of the cylinder when the piston is located at the lowest point of the stroke compared to the minimum volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the highest point of the stroke. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement). The bike with a better fuel economy is the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 which can travel 37.6 miles with one gallon of fuel. Suzuki GSX-R750 on the contrary can travel 37.3 miles with a gallon. When measured in mpg the fuel economy shows how many miles can be traveled with a gallon of fuel. Alternatively when measure in l\100km it shows the fuel consumption in litters per 100 kilometer trip. ![]() The measure of the ground clearance is the same for both motorcycles - 135mm. The distance between the chassis and the base of the tyre is called ride height or also ground clearance of a motorcycle and is usually given in millimeters in the technical specifications. To say it shortly, this is the smallest of the measures between the road surface and any mechanical part of the motorcycle. Suzuki GSX-R750 appears to be faster than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 with top speed of 279km/h against 246km/h for the other bike. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate. ![]() Those two motorcycle use the same cooling system - liquid. The tiny variations of the operating temperatures are one of the significant advantages of the liquid cooled motorcycles. Therefore the liquid-cooled engine runs more efficiently and consistently. The main principle is circulation of the liquid between the radiator and the engine. A fan is turned on if needed by a thermostat to draw more air over the radiator in case the motorcycle slows down. Finally this type of cooling makes it is easier to meet emissions and noise regulations and increase power output. ![]() Compression ratio Imagine an engine's piston is at the bottom of its stroke (step one) and moves up compressing the gas in the cylinder till it reaches its top position of the stroke (step 2). The compression ratio is the ration of the volume in step one over the volume in step two. As mentioned in the information of their technical data the values of the compression ratios are 12.5:1 for Suzuki GSX-R750 and 11.5:1 for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. With internal combustion engines the higher compression ratio allows higher efficiency because the combustion temperature is reached with less fuel. The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. There are different types at different prices on the market - mineral, highperformance, all-purpose part-synthetic and synthetic oil. The oil is usually to be changed after 6000km (3700 miles) after the previous oil change. The quality of the synthetic oil allows up to 5000 miles (8000 km) between oil changes. Replacing the oil filter is also to be considered on each engine oil change. According to the technical specs the engine oil capacity is 2.9 litres for Suzuki GSX-R750 and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. The oil capacity information is only to get an idea of how much oil roughly will be needed on oilchange. Observing the currrent level on the dipstick or the level sight window is the best way to pour the proper amount of oil. |
