Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has bigger engine size than Suzuki GSX-R600 but this is not a direct indicator for more power or better performance. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.9:1 than the other one. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Suzuki GSX-R600 which can travel 42 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. There are two ways of showing the fuel economy of a motorcycle - describing how many miles it can travel with a single gallon of fuel (mpg) or how many litters of fuel it is burning on a 100 kilometer trip (l\100km).

Suzuki GSX-R600 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 are both liquid cooled. Compared to the air cooled motorcycles the liquid cooled ones have a very narrow range of working temperatures. Therefore the liquid-cooled engine runs more efficiently and consistently. The liquid (coolant) is forced by the water pump to circulate from the radiator to the engine and back. The amount of cooling can be regulated via thermostat, which helps holding the temperature at a relatively constant level. Liquid-cooled engines are usually more forgiving because the hot engine has some surrounding coolant to heat up before causing any damage from overheating.

Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. The down points of the chain drive are the frequent maintenance required as it needs to be regularly cleaned and oiled. Besides it is not as smooth as a shaft or belt drive.
Compression ratio - this parameter refers to how the cylinder's space changes from when the piston is down at its lowest point to when the piston is up at its highest point in the stroke. Motorcycles with higher compression ratio may be recommended to use premium fuel only in order to avoid engine knocking. The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. It is commonly accepted engine oil to be changed on every 3700 miles (6000 kilometers). With synthetic oil though you can run as far as 8000 kilometers (5000 miles). Some oil filters can be replaced on every second oil change while others are to be replaced on each oil change. The technical specs show that the Suzuki GSX-R600 takes 3.0 litres of engine oil while the oil capacity of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres. The values of the oil capacity here can not be used as a precise measurement when changing the oil. The exact amount of oil you pour in is to be judged by the current level shown on the oil level sight window or dipstick.
