Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has a smaller engine displacement than Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan but the size if the engine itself is doesn't mean that the bike is more or less powerful. The second bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 11.5:1 than the other one. It represents the relation between the biggest and the smallest volume in the combustion chamber while the piston is performing its stroke movement. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 which can travel 37.6 miles with one gallon of fuel. Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan on the contrary can travel 37.3 miles with a gallon. Measuring the fuel economy in mpg shows how many miles of ride are covered by a gallon of fuel and measuring in l/100km shows the average fuel consumption in litters for every 100 kilometers riding.
tire sizes The size of the tyres is specified by the producer for each motorcycle. Your type of riding is also to be taken into account here. The code designators located on the side of each tires is something that you should be aware of if you want to find proper tires for your bike. The width of the tire measured in millimeters is shown first. The second number show the aspect ratio. And the third number indicats the diameter of the rim in inches. Prices of motorcycle tires can easily be compared online and purchesed at good price.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has a better ground clearance of 135mm ( for Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan it is 130mm). The ride height is the other name of the parameter ground clearance which refers to the measure from the tyre base to the underside of the cassis of a motorcycle. This is the shortest line between the body of a motorcycle and the surface of the road.
Comparing the top speed values of both motorcycles we can see that Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the faster one with 246km/h. As per the technical data of Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan it would be behind it on the highway with 185km/h. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Motorcycle with liquid cooling systemThe same method of engine cooling is used on both motorcycles - liquid cooling. The pretty constant ranges of operating temperature are typical for the liquid cooled engines. Therefore the liquid-cooled engine runs more efficiently and consistently. The water pump drives the coolant from the engine into the radiator and back. A thermostat turns on an electric fan to draw more air over the radiator in case the motorcycle slows down and the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to cool the liquid inside it to the desired level. Finally this type of cooling makes it is easier to meet emissions and noise regulations and increase power output.
As per their technical specifications both motorcycles have different types of final drive implementation.
final drive implemented with chain One of these two motorcycles (the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1) is driven by a chain. One of the most economical way to drive horsepower from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle is achieved with the chain drive and therefore it is still the most used among the three options by bike manufacturers. Many bikers may complain of the need of constant care though. Since the chain is exposed to dust, sun and rain it needs to be periodically cleaned and properly lubricated. The Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan is driven by a belt.
Compression ratio 9.5:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 9.5:1. The value of the compression ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 based on the information in its technical data and for Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan the ratio is 9.5:1. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. With internal combustion engines the higher compression ratio allows higher efficiency because the combustion temperature is reached with less fuel.
One of the most important aspects of the basic level of maintenance of a motorcycle is the engine oil. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. It is commonly accepted engine oil to be changed on every 3700 miles (6000 kilometers). More kilometers between two oil changes is accepted when synthetic oil is used. Depending on the oil filter it needs to be replaced on each or every two oil changes. Both motorcycles have different oil capacity according to the technical specs - 4.3 litres for Kawasaki VN 1700 Vulcan and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. When changing the oil it is advisable to put less than the specified oil capacity and to check the level. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick).
