Comparing the technical specifications of Honda XL 700V Transalp and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is a proper way to figure out which one of these motorcycles matches better your individual preferences and expectations. The decision on your next motorcycle purchase should be all based on your personal preferences for speed, handling and comfort. If you compare the motorcycles you are interested in by analysing their technical specifications, features and pictures, the list of favourite ones could be shortened to just a few models. The most appropriate method of exploring them is to actually ride each of them or at least sit on them to see how they feel.

Although Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 has a bigger engine displacement than Honda XL 700V Transalp it doesn't necessarily mean it is more powerful or better performing bike. The second bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 11.5:1 than the other one. This parameter shows how the volume in the engine cylinder when the piston is at the bottom end relates to the volume when the piston is at the top end. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Honda XL 700V Transalp which can travel 44.4 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. There are two ways of showing the fuel economy of a motorcycle - describing how many miles it can travel with a single gallon of fuel (mpg) or how many litters of fuel it is burning on a 100 kilometer trip (l\100km).
bike tires Motorcycle tyres come in variety of sizes and these sizes are strongly specified for each model. Another considerable factor here is your own riding style. Tires have a code of numbers and letters printed on their sides and these are important to be understood properly when looking for matching tires. The first of these numbers shows how many millimeters the tire is wide. The second number show the aspect ratio. The third number shows the size of the rim - its diameter measured in inches. Looking online for motorcycle tires is a good way to easily find the right size at low price.
Honda XL 700V Transalp has bigger ground clearance than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 (180mm vs 135mm). The distance between the chassis and the base of the tyre is called ride height or also ground clearance of a motorcycle and is usually given in millimeters in the technical specifications. In simple terms that would be the shortest line among all the lines drawn between the surface of the road and any mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Comparing the top speed values of both motorcycles we can see that Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the faster one with 246km/h. As per the technical data of Honda XL 700V Transalp it would be behind it on the highway with 173km/h. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled motorcycle engine
Honda XL 700V Transalp is liquid cooled and so is the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. Liquid-cooled engines have a narrower range of operating temperatures compared to the air-cooled ones. The relatively consistent combustion environment of the liquid-cooled engine means that the mixture of fuel and air can be precisely controlled and optimised for better output. The water pump drives the coolant from the engine into the radiator and back. The amount of cooling can be regulated via thermostat, which helps holding the temperature at a relatively constant level. Liquid-cooled engines are usually more forgiving because the hot engine has some surrounding coolant to heat up before causing any damage from overheating.
motorcycle with chain final drive The same final drive (chain) is used with these two bikes Honda XL 700V Transalp and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. Most motorcycles are produced with chain drive because of its economical way to transfer power to the rear wheel and convey the biggest percentage of engine power in that process. However all chains require keeping an eye on them and proper lubrication when they get dry and cleaning when they get dirty.
compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. Its value for Honda XL 700V Transalp is 10:1 and for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 based on the technical data of the motorcycles. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
To keep the engine in good health it is important to observe the good qulity and proper level of the motor oil. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. As a general rule it should be changed on every 6000 kilometers or 3700 miles. With synthetic oil though you can run as far as 8000 kilometers (5000 miles). Replacing the oil filter is also to be considered on each engine oil change. Both motorcycles have different oil capacity according to the technical specs - 2.9 litres for Honda XL 700V Transalp and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. The values of the oil capacity here can not be used as a precise measurement when changing the oil. Observing the currrent level on the dipstick or the level sight window is the best way to pour the proper amount of oil.
