The bigger engine size of Ducati Street Fighter S in comparison to Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.5:1 than the other one. This is the ration of the volumes in the cylinder in two stages of the stroke when the piston is at the lowest and then at the highest point in the cylinder. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Ducati Street Fighter S which can travel 44.4 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. When measured in mpg the fuel economy shows how many miles can be traveled with a gallon of fuel. Alternatively when measure in l\100km it shows the fuel consumption in litters per 100 kilometer trip.
bike tiresIf the time to replace your motorcycle tyres has come then you need to find the proper new ones. Another considerable factor here is your own riding style. To choose the right tire size firstly you need to understand the meaning of the numbers printed on the size of the tire. The width of the tire measured in millimeters is shown first. Both motorcycles Ducati Street Fighter S and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 have the same width of their tires - 120 mm for the front tire and 190 mm for the rear one. The aspect ratio of the tire is represented by the second number of the code. The third of the code numbers reffers to the size of the rim and it is measured in inches. Since many internet stores are offering motorcycle tires it is an easy way to get proper pair of tires online at reasonable price.
Ducati Street Fighter S has bigger ground clearance than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 (150mm vs 135mm). The ground clearance is also called the ride height and that is the distance between the base of the tyre and underside of the motorcycle’s body (the chassis). To say it shortly, this is the smallest of the measures between the road surface and any mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Ducati Street Fighter S appears to be faster than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 with top speed of 248km/h against 246km/h for the other bike. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled engine of a motorcycleThe same method of engine cooling is used on both motorcycles - liquid cooling. Liquid-cooled engines have a narrower range of operating temperatures compared to the air-cooled ones. Therefore liquid cooled motors can run with carburetion set to burn all the fuel in the mixture. The circulation of the coolant from the radiator to the engine is helped by the water pump. The temperature is kept at a relatively constant level by a thermostat which turns on a fan to draw more air over the radiator if needed. However the water pump, the thermostat, the radiator and all the linking gear makes it a bit more complex.
final drive implemented with chain Chain final drive is used with both motorcycles - the Ducati Street Fighter S and the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. However chains have their down points - more frequent need of maintenance (lubrication and cleaning) which means that a biker should always keep an eye on the chain especially in rainy days or dusty roads.
Compression ratio Imagine an engine's piston is at the bottom of its stroke (step one) and moves up compressing the gas in the cylinder till it reaches its top position of the stroke (step 2). The compression ratio is the ration of the volume in step one over the volume in step two. The value of the compression ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 based on the information in its technical data and for Ducati Street Fighter S the ratio is 12.5:1. Motorcycles with higher compression ratio may be recommended to use premium fuel only in order to avoid engine knocking. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
To keep the engine in good health it is important to observe the good qulity and proper level of the motor oil. Engine oils are different types as synthetic, mineral, part-synthetic and they all come at their price and qualities. The engine oil is to be changed on every 3700 miles (or 6000 kilometers) as a general rule. More kilometers between two oil changes is accepted when synthetic oil is used. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. Both motorcycles have different oil capacity according to the technical specs - 2.8 litres for Ducati Street Fighter S and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. The oil capacity information is only to get an idea of how much oil roughly will be needed on oilchange. Observing the currrent level on the dipstick or the level sight window is the best way to pour the proper amount of oil.
