The bigger engine size of Ducati Multistrada 1200S in comparison to Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. Both bikes has the same compression ratio of 11.5:1. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke.
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 which can travel 37.6 miles with one gallon of fuel. Ducati Multistrada 1200S on the contrary can travel 37.3 miles with a gallon. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another.
tire sizesIf the time to replace your motorcycle tyres has come then you need to find the proper new ones. Picking the proper type that matches your individual style of riding is very essential. Tires have a code of numbers and letters printed on their sides and these are important to be understood properly when looking for matching tires. Firstly the code shows the width of the tire measured in millimeters. Both motorcycles Ducati Multistrada 1200S and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 have the same width of their tires - 120 mm for the front tire and 190 mm for the rear one. After that comes the aspect ration shown by the second number in the code. The diameter of the rim is represented by the third number in the code. Looking online for motorcycle tires is a good way to easily find the right size at low price.
As per the data sheets Ducati Multistrada 1200S has a bigger ground clearance (140mm) than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 (135mm). The distance between the chassis and the base of the tyre is called ride height or also ground clearance of a motorcycle and is usually given in millimeters in the technical specifications. To say it shortly, this is the smallest of the measures between the road surface and any mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the bike with higher tested top speed (246km/h). On the other side Ducati Multistrada 1200S can achieve speed of 233km/h on the highway. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled engine of a motorcycle
Those two motorcycle use the same cooling system - liquid. Compared to the air cooled motorcycles the liquid cooled ones have a very narrow range of working temperatures. Keeping the operating temperature at a very narrow range allows many engine components to be optimised for these temperatures. The coolant is circulating into the radiator and back to the engine driven by the water pump. The temperature is kept at a relatively constant level by a thermostat which turns on a fan to draw more air over the radiator if needed. Water jackets in a liquid cooled engine act as sound insulators and make it quieter.
final drive implemented with chain Both motorcycles Ducati Multistrada 1200S and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 have the same final drive - chain. Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. Many bikers may complain of the need of constant care though. Since the chain is exposed to dust, sun and rain it needs to be periodically cleaned and properly lubricated.
Compression ratio - this parameter refers to how the cylinder's space changes from when the piston is down at its lowest point to when the piston is up at its highest point in the stroke. As mentioned in the information of their technical data the values of the compression ratios are 11.5:1 for Ducati Multistrada 1200S and 11.5:1 for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. There are different types at different prices on the market - mineral, highperformance, all-purpose part-synthetic and synthetic oil. The oil is usually to be changed after 6000km (3700 miles) after the previous oil change. The quality of the synthetic oil allows up to 5000 miles (8000 km) between oil changes. Depending on the oil filter it needs to be replaced on each or every two oil changes. The technical specs show that the Ducati Multistrada 1200S takes 3.9 litres of engine oil while the oil capacity of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres. This oil capacity values are with informative purpose only. Pouring exactly the proper amount of oil needed is achieved by observing the level sight window or the dipstick marks.
