The detailed comparison between Ducati Monster 821 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 can help you decide which one of them will suit you better. Your choice of motorcycle should be all about your individual preferences and comfort level. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.

The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to Ducati Monster 821 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.8:1 than the other one. It represents the relation between the biggest and the smallest volume in the combustion chamber while the piston is performing its stroke movement. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 which can travel 37.6 miles with one gallon of fuel. Ducati Monster 821 on the contrary can travel 37.3 miles with a gallon. Measuring the fuel economy in mpg shows how many miles of ride are covered by a gallon of fuel and measuring in l/100km shows the average fuel consumption in litters for every 100 kilometers riding.
motorcycle tiresEach motorcycle should be fitted with the type of tyres that are specified for it. Your type of riding is also to be taken into account here. Tires have a code of numbers and letters printed on their sides and these are important to be understood properly when looking for matching tires. Firstly the code shows the width of the tire measured in millimeters. Both motorcycles have the same with of their front tires - 120 mm. The aspect ratio of the tire is represented by the second number of the code. And the third number indicats the diameter of the rim in inches. Looking online for motorcycle tires is a good way to easily find the right size at low price.
The ground clearance (ride height) of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 135mm and is smaller than the clearance of Ducati Monster 821 which is 150mm. The distance between the chassis and the base of the tyre is called ride height or also ground clearance of a motorcycle and is usually given in millimeters in the technical specifications. In simple terms that would be the shortest line among all the lines drawn between the surface of the road and any mechanical part of the motorcycle.
The top speed of 246km/h makes Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 the faster of the two motorcycles. The other one (Ducati Monster 821) can achieve a maximum speed of 224km/h according to its technical specifications. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled engine of a motorcycleThe same method of engine cooling is used on both motorcycles - liquid cooling. Compared to the air cooled motorcycles the liquid cooled ones have a very narrow range of working temperatures. The relatively consistent combustion environment of the liquid-cooled engine means that the mixture of fuel and air can be precisely controlled and optimised for better output. The main principle is circulation of the liquid between the radiator and the engine. The temperature is kept at a relatively constant level by a thermostat which turns on a fan to draw more air over the radiator if needed. However the water pump, the thermostat, the radiator and all the linking gear makes it a bit more complex.
motorcycle with chain final drive Ducati Monster 821 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 are both driven by chain. Chain final drives are known for their simplicity and efficiency in driving power from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle and are one of the most popular final drive options by far. However they are not as smooth as belts and shafts and also require frequent care like cleaning and keeping the chain properly lubricated.
Compression ratio Imagine an engine's piston is at the bottom of its stroke (step one) and moves up compressing the gas in the cylinder till it reaches its top position of the stroke (step 2). The compression ratio is the ration of the volume in step one over the volume in step two. The compressio ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 and it is 12.8:1 for Ducati Monster 821 according to the motorcycles technical data above. In other words it represents how tightly the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is pressed before the ignition. Engines with higher compression ratio are more energy efficient because they are able to extract more mechanical energy from a certain amount of fuel.
Motorcycle oil is one of the most important components that keeps the engine running smoothly. Engine oils are different types as synthetic, mineral, part-synthetic and they all come at their price and qualities. The engine oil is to be changed on every 3700 miles (or 6000 kilometers) as a general rule. Synthetic oil can be changed less often though. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. The oil capacity of Ducati Monster 821 is 3.4 litres and the engine oil of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres as per their technical specs. This oil capacity values are with informative purpose only. Observing the currrent level on the dipstick or the level sight window is the best way to pour the proper amount of oil.
