motorcycle reviews: Yamaha Honda Suzuki Kawasaki BMW Harley Davidson Aprilia Ducati Triumph KTM Hyosung |
Looking at the detailed specifications of both motorcycles Ducati Monster 796 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is a proper approach to determine which of the two is more likely to match your style of riding and to satisfy your preferences. You certainly have your own comfort zones in speeding, handling and sitting position and these should guide you to your choice of motorcycle. The long personal list of favourite motorcycle models can be narrowed to just a few ones after comparing their pictures and technical specifications. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.
The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to Ducati Monster 796 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The second bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 11.5:1 than the other one. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement). The bike with a better fuel economy is the Ducati Monster 796 which can travel 42 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another. ![]() Ducati Monster 796 has a better ground clearance of 150mm ( for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 it is 135mm). Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. In other words that is the shortest distance between the road surface and the lowest mechanical part of the motorcycle. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the faster of the two with top speed of 246 kilometers per hour against the max speed of 203 km/h specified to its opponent Ducati Monster 796. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate. ![]() compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. Based on the information from the technical data of the motorcycles the values are accordingly 11:1 for Ducati Monster 796 and 11.5:1 for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. With internal combustion engines the higher compression ratio allows higher efficiency because the combustion temperature is reached with less fuel. The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. As a general rule it should be changed on every 6000 kilometers or 3700 miles. Synthetic oil can be changed less often though. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. The oil capacity is 3.7 litres for both bikes according to the technical specs. This oil capacity values are with informative purpose only. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick). |
