Comparing the technical specifications of Ducati Hyperstrada 821 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is a proper way to figure out which one of these motorcycles matches better your individual preferences and expectations. You certainly have your own comfort zones in speeding, handling and sitting position and these should guide you to your choice of motorcycle. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.

The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to Ducati Hyperstrada 821 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.8:1 than the other one. This parameter shows how the volume in the engine cylinder when the piston is at the bottom end relates to the volume when the piston is at the top end. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the Ducati Hyperstrada 821 which can travel 42 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another.
front and rear tiresIf the time to replace your motorcycle tyres has come then you need to find the proper new ones. Your individual riding style is another factor that determines which type is appropriate in your case. To choose the right tire size firstly you need to understand the meaning of the numbers printed on the size of the tire. The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. Both motorcycles have the same with of their front tires - 120 mm. After that comes the aspect ration shown by the second number in the code. And the third number indicats the diameter of the rim in inches. A good way to save some time and money is to purchase your motorcycle tires online at competitive price.
Ducati Hyperstrada 821 has bigger ground clearance than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 (145mm vs 135mm). The ground clearance is also called the ride height and that is the distance between the base of the tyre and underside of the motorcycle’s body (the chassis). In other words that is the shortest distance between the road surface and the lowest mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the faster of the two with top speed of 246 kilometers per hour against the max speed of 198 km/h specified to its opponent Ducati Hyperstrada 821. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Motorcycle with liquid cooling system
Ducati Hyperstrada 821 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 are both liquid cooled. Motorcycles with liquid cooling operate at narrower temperature ranges. Once the operating temperature is reached (the engine is warmed up), it runs at a pretty constant temperature. The coolant is circulating into the radiator and back to the engine driven by the water pump. The amount of cooling can be regulated via thermostat, which helps holding the temperature at a relatively constant level. Liquid-cooled engines are usually more forgiving because the hot engine has some surrounding coolant to heat up before causing any damage from overheating.
chain final drive The same final drive (chain) is used with these two bikes Ducati Hyperstrada 821 and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. However they are not as smooth as belts and shafts and also require frequent care like cleaning and keeping the chain properly lubricated.
Compression ratio 12.8:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 12.8:1. The value of the compression ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 based on the information in its technical data and for Ducati Hyperstrada 821 the ratio is 12.8:1. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
To keep the engine in good health it is important to observe the good qulity and proper level of the motor oil. Synthetic engine oils are considered the most technically advanced one and are more expensive than the mineral oils which come at lower price. It is commonly accepted engine oil to be changed on every 3700 miles (6000 kilometers). The quality of the synthetic oil allows up to 5000 miles (8000 km) between oil changes. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. Ducati Hyperstrada 821 takes 3.4 litres of engine oil. The technical specs of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 determines its oil capacity to be 3.7 litres. The values of the oil capacity here can not be used as a precise measurement when changing the oil. The exact amount of oil you pour in is to be judged by the current level shown on the oil level sight window or dipstick.
