A good way to figure out whether BMW R1200GS or Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is better matching your personal style and requirements is to compare their specifications and features in details. Your choice of motorcycle should be all about your individual preferences and comfort level. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. A good way to find the most suitable one among them would be to sit on each of them and if possible ride it for a while.

The bigger engine size of BMW R1200GS in comparison to Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12:1 than the other one. This parameter shows how the volume in the engine cylinder when the piston is at the bottom end relates to the volume when the piston is at the top end. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the BMW R1200GS which can travel 42 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. When measured in mpg the fuel economy shows how many miles can be traveled with a gallon of fuel. Alternatively when measure in l\100km it shows the fuel consumption in litters per 100 kilometer trip.
how to buy motorcycle tiresEach motorcycle should be fitted with the type of tyres that are specified for it. The right choice also depends on your style of riding, whether you are speeding and riding agressively. The code designators located on the side of each tires is something that you should be aware of if you want to find proper tires for your bike. The first of these numbers shows how many millimeters the tire is wide. The aspect ratio of the tire is represented by the second number of the code. And the third number indicats the diameter of the rim in inches. A good way to save some time and money is to purchase your motorcycle tires online at competitive price.
The ground clearance (ride height) of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 135mm and is smaller than the clearance of BMW R1200GS which is 185mm. The ground clearance is also called the ride height and that is the distance between the base of the tyre and underside of the motorcycle’s body (the chassis). In other words that is the shortest distance between the road surface and the lowest mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Comparing the top speed values of both motorcycles we can see that Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the faster one with 246km/h. As per the technical data of BMW R1200GS it would be behind it on the highway with 200km/h. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.
As per their technical specifications both motorcycles have different types of final drive implementation.
chain final drive The Yamaha Fazer FZ-1is driven by a chain. Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. However they are not as smooth as belts and shafts and also require frequent care like cleaning and keeping the chain properly lubricated. The BMW R1200GS is driven by shaft.
Compression ratio 12:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 12:1. As mentioned in the information of their technical data the values of the compression ratios are 12:1 for BMW R1200GS and 11.5:1 for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. To avoid engine knocking when compression ratio is high those motorcycles might be recommended to use premium fuel only. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. It is commonly accepted engine oil to be changed on every 3700 miles (6000 kilometers). If you you synthetic oil then bigger mileage can be allowed between oil changes. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. The oil capacity of BMW R1200GS is 4.0 litres and the engine oil of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres as per their technical specs. This oil capacity values are with informative purpose only. Observing the currrent level on the dipstick or the level sight window is the best way to pour the proper amount of oil.
