A good way to figure out whether BMW K1300S or Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is better matching your personal style and requirements is to compare their specifications and features in details. You certainly have your own comfort zones in speeding, handling and sitting position and these should guide you to your choice of motorcycle. A good way to narrow the circle of favourite bikes is to compare their technical specifications and select just a few that are really matching your style and needs. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.

The bigger engine size of BMW K1300S in comparison to Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 13:1 than the other one. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the BMW K1300S which can travel 44.4 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. Measuring the fuel economy in mpg shows how many miles of ride are covered by a gallon of fuel and measuring in l/100km shows the average fuel consumption in litters for every 100 kilometers riding.
front and rear tires The size of the tyres is specified by the producer for each motorcycle. Picking the proper type that matches your individual style of riding is very essential. Tires have a code of numbers and letters printed on their sides and these are important to be understood properly when looking for matching tires. Firstly the code shows the width of the tire measured in millimeters. Both motorcycles BMW K1300S and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 have the same width of their tires - 120 mm for the front tire and 190 mm for the rear one. After that comes the aspect ration shown by the second number in the code. The third number shows the size of the rim - its diameter measured in inches. Since many internet stores are offering motorcycle tires it is an easy way to get proper pair of tires online at reasonable price.
The ground clearance (ride height) of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 135mm and is smaller than the clearance of BMW K1300S which is 225mm. The ride height is the other name of the parameter ground clearance which refers to the measure from the tyre base to the underside of the cassis of a motorcycle. In simple terms that would be the shortest line among all the lines drawn between the surface of the road and any mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Comparing the top speed values of both motorcycles we can see that BMW K1300S is the faster one with 273km/h. As per the technical data of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 it would be behind it on the highway with 246km/h. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Liquid cooled motorcycle engine
Both motorcycles are liquid cooled. The tiny variations of the operating temperatures are one of the significant advantages of the liquid cooled motorcycles. Therefore liquid cooled motors can run with carburetion set to burn all the fuel in the mixture. The circulation of the coolant from the radiator to the engine is helped by the water pump. If the motorcycle slows down to a point where the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to lower the temperature of the coolant to the needed level, a thermostat will typically switch an electric fan on to increase the air flow through the radiator. Finally this type of cooling makes it is easier to meet emissions and noise regulations and increase power output.
As per their technical specifications both motorcycles have different types of final drive implementation.
motorcycle with chain final drive One of these two motorcycles (the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1) is driven by a chain. One of the most economical way to drive horsepower from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle is achieved with the chain drive and therefore it is still the most used among the three options by bike manufacturers. The down points of the chain drive are the frequent maintenance required as it needs to be regularly cleaned and oiled. Besides it is not as smooth as a shaft or belt drive. The BMW K1300S is driven by shaft.
Compression ratio 13:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 13:1. Its value for BMW K1300S is 13:1 and for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 based on the technical data of the motorcycles. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
Engine oil is among the most important aspects of an engines health. Synthetic engine oils are considered the most technically advanced one and are more expensive than the mineral oils which come at lower price. The engine oil is to be changed on every 3700 miles (or 6000 kilometers) as a general rule. Synthetic oil can be changed less often though. Replacing the oil filter is also to be considered on each engine oil change. Both motorcycles have different oil capacity according to the technical specs - 4.2 litres for BMW K1300S and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. The oil capacity information is only to get an idea of how much oil roughly will be needed on oilchange. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick).
