motorcycle reviews: Yamaha Honda Suzuki Kawasaki BMW Harley Davidson Aprilia Ducati Triumph KTM Hyosung |
Looking at the detailed specifications of both motorcycles BMW K1300GT and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is a proper approach to determine which of the two is more likely to match your style of riding and to satisfy your preferences. When trying to make your mind on the next motorcycle, your personal levels of comfort should be the leading criteria. If you compare the motorcycles you are interested in by analysing their technical specifications, features and pictures, the list of favourite ones could be shortened to just a few models. Then the most appropriate judgement can be made when each of them is taken for a real ride.
BMW K1300GT has bigger engine size than Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 but this is not a direct indicator for more power or better performance. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 13:1 than the other one. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement). The bike with a better fuel economy is the BMW K1300GT which can travel 37.9 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another. ![]() The ground clearance of BMW K1300GT (158mm) is bigger than the one of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 (bbb2mm). The distance between the chassis and the base of the tyre is called ride height or also ground clearance of a motorcycle and is usually given in millimeters in the technical specifications. This is the shortest line between the body of a motorcycle and the surface of the road. BMW K1300GT is the bike with higher tested top speed (252km/h). On the other side Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 can achieve speed of 246km/h on the highway. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate. ![]() Those two motorcycle use the same cooling system - liquid. Motorcycles with liquid cooling operate at narrower temperature ranges. Keeping the operating temperature at a very narrow range allows many engine components to be optimised for these temperatures. The circulation of the coolant from the radiator to the engine is helped by the water pump. A fan is turned on if needed by a thermostat to draw more air over the radiator in case the motorcycle slows down. Liquid-cooled engines are usually more forgiving because the hot engine has some surrounding coolant to heat up before causing any damage from overheating. As per their technical specifications both motorcycles have different types of final drive implementation. ![]() Compression ratio 13:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 13:1. Based on the information from the technical data of the motorcycles the values are accordingly 13:1 for BMW K1300GT and 11.5:1 for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio. Motorcycle oil is one of the most important components that keeps the engine running smoothly. Engine oils are different types as synthetic, mineral, part-synthetic and they all come at their price and qualities. As a general rule it should be changed on every 6000 kilometers or 3700 miles. Synthetic oil can be changed less often though. Depending on the oil filter it needs to be replaced on each or every two oil changes. According to the technical specs the engine oil capacity is 3.8 litres for BMW K1300GT and 3.7 litres for Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. When changing the oil it is advisable to put less than the specified oil capacity and to check the level. Observing the currrent level on the dipstick or the level sight window is the best way to pour the proper amount of oil. |
