The detailed comparison between BMW G650GS and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 can help you decide which one of them will suit you better. You certainly have your own comfort zones in speeding, handling and sitting position and these should guide you to your choice of motorcycle. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. The most appropriate method of exploring them is to actually ride each of them or at least sit on them to see how they feel.

The bigger engine size of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 in comparison to BMW G650GS doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12:1 than the other one. This is the ration of the volumes in the cylinder in two stages of the stroke when the piston is at the lowest and then at the highest point in the cylinder. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The bike with a better fuel economy is the BMW G650GS which can travel 48 miles with one gallon of fuel. Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 on the contrary can travel 37.6 miles with a gallon. There are two ways of showing the fuel economy of a motorcycle - describing how many miles it can travel with a single gallon of fuel (mpg) or how many litters of fuel it is burning on a 100 kilometer trip (l\100km).
bike tires Motorcycle tyres come in variety of sizes and these sizes are strongly specified for each model. Your individual riding style is another factor that determines which type is appropriate in your case. Tires have a code of numbers and letters printed on their sides and these are important to be understood properly when looking for matching tires. The width of the tire is represented by the first number. After that comes the aspect ration shown by the second number in the code. The third number shows the size of the rim - its diameter measured in inches. A good way to save some time and money is to purchase your motorcycle tires online at competitive price.
The ground clearance of BMW G650GS (261mm) is bigger than the one of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 (bbb2mm). Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. That, in other words, is the smallest distance between any mechanical body part of the motorcycle and the surface of the road.
Comparing the top speed values of both motorcycles we can see that Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is the faster one with 246km/h. As per the technical data of BMW G650GS it would be behind it on the highway with 170km/h. However sources may vary as to whether these top speed parameters are precise or only approximate.Motorcycle with liquid cooling system
BMW G650GS and Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 are both liquid cooled. The tiny variations of the operating temperatures are one of the significant advantages of the liquid cooled motorcycles. Once the operating temperature is reached (the engine is warmed up), it runs at a pretty constant temperature. The water pump drives the coolant from the engine into the radiator and back. The temperature is kept at a relatively constant level by a thermostat which turns on a fan to draw more air over the radiator if needed. Water jackets in a liquid cooled engine act as sound insulators and make it quieter.
motorcycle with chain final drive Chain final drive is used with both motorcycles - the BMW G650GS and the Yamaha Fazer FZ-1. Chain final drives are known for their simplicity and efficiency in driving power from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle and are one of the most popular final drive options by far. However chains have their down points - more frequent need of maintenance (lubrication and cleaning) which means that a biker should always keep an eye on the chain especially in rainy days or dusty roads.
Compression ratio of a motorcycle engine is the ratio of the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the bottom of the stoke and its volume when the piston is at the top of the stroke. The value of the compression ratio of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 11.5:1 based on the information in its technical data and for BMW G650GS the ratio is 12:1. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Synthetic engine oils are considered the most technically advanced one and are more expensive than the mineral oils which come at lower price. The engine oil is to be changed on every 3700 miles (or 6000 kilometers) as a general rule. With synthetic oil though you can run as far as 8000 kilometers (5000 miles). Some oil filters can be replaced on every second oil change while others are to be replaced on each oil change. The technical specs show that the BMW G650GS takes 2.3 litres of engine oil while the oil capacity of Yamaha Fazer FZ-1 is 3.7 litres. The oil capacity here is just to give you a rough idea of how much oil you need on an oil change. Pouring exactly the proper amount of oil needed is achieved by observing the level sight window or the dipstick marks.
